    They were both masterful players of ballads, shown most notably in this collection by Chaloff’s beautiful rendition of “Body and Soul” on the Boston Blowup session and “Thanks for the Memory” from Blue Serge. Chaloff was like Mulligan on ballads in that he possessed deep reserves of grace and feeling on ballads and wasn’t afraid to let them show.
